About Me

I love making homes better.

I usually work directly with homeowners. I am based in South London and have also worked on projects in Kent, Hampshire and Cambridgeshire. If a daily commute is realistic, I can work there.

I also work in the Lake District.

How do I make homes better?

Gathering an in-depth understanding of the problem.

Making thoughtful, relevant and achievable designs.

Clearly and methodically planning projects.

Making clear, thorough and achievable specifications and instructions.

Working closely with trades throughout a project.

I have always loved optimising space to make it more useful and liveable.

After 4 years at university studying Ecology and Zoology (three undergraduate years at Cambridge University and one postgraduate year at Exeter University) I realised, somewhat disappointingly, that while I had very much enjoyed learning about biology, researching it was not the route I wanted to take.

I moved home to the Lake District in the north of England and started managing my family’s holiday accommodation business (as an aside – if you want a lovely place to stay in the Lakes, check out manesty.co.uk). During the low seasons I planned, designed and oversaw a five year refurbishment program of eight holiday properties. I also planned, bought, and designed and built the interior of a new shepherd’s hut.

In 2016 I moved to London to study for a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the City and Guilds of London Art School. I graduated with Distinction and the nine months of studying felt like a holiday I enjoyed it so much. In 2017, I started working on projects for friends and after a number of word of mouth recommendations, I started my business, Alice Clare Studio.

Alice worked hard to squeeze in a remarkably generous staircase to a space where it was hard to imagine one fitting.

Now I help people make the most of their homes.

A well thought out home helps people lead happy lives, and I enjoy using my creative and analytical skills to enhance the space where my clients spend so much of their time, and in doing so make their homes ‘work hard’ for them.

You can read more about how I might be able to help you and your home by reading my Services page or by looking through my Portfolio to find out how I have helped others.
